1. Johnson v Ontario: inmate class member who sustained catastrophic injuries while incarcerated brings individual civil action against HMK alleging inter alia negligence and Charter violations. HMK alleges inmate is class member in Johnson and unable to proceed with individual claim. The appeal was procedurally complex giving rise to multiple motions addressing inter alia jurisdictional issues, a motion to admit an affidavit in lieu of a transcript of the hearing that was not recorded, an intervention from the Class Actions Clinic, costs, and, a motion to extend the time to perfect the appeal. The inmate class member was successful in three notable decisions, including the motion to admit the affidavit, the motion to quash, and the appeal proper.
2. Reddock: Two inmates bring a motion for costs of their motion to opt out rendered moot by developments in the Reddock class action.
